Descrição
General description
Hexane is an alkane and exists in 5 structural isomeric forms, i.e. hexane, isohexane, 3-methylpentane, neohexane and 2,3-dimethylbutane. It can be obtained from petroleum by distillation. It can also be produced by electrolyzing the potassium butyrate solution. It is widely employed organic solvent for the dissolution and isolation of fats and oils.
Application
Hexane may be used in the following studies:
-
Preparation of graft-copolymer chains of poly-(dimethylsiloxane)-g-poly(methyl methacrylate).[1]
-
GC/MS (Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry) characterization of essential oils isolated from various origins.
-
As solvent for the preparation of samples and standards during chromatographic studies.[2]
Hexane may be used as a solvent in the detection of rubrene, using normal phase high performance liquid chromatography. It may also be used as an extraction solvent to concentrate the analytes like synthetic cannabinoids of the aminoalkylindole type and methanandamide in serum, followed by separation using liquid chromatography coupled with tandem-mass spectrometry.
